The All India Hindu Mahasabha celebrated the murder of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on Thursday on his death anniversary and raised controversy by honoring his killer Nathuram Godse. Godse, who was allegedly associated with the Hindu Mahasabha, shot and killed Gandhi during a prayer meeting on 30 January 1948 at Birla House in Delhi. He was hanged in Ambala Jail in 1949.
Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha member ‘Amar Shaheed Nathuram Godse Nana Apte Dham’ gathered and ‘reminded’ the works of Godse. Pandit Ashok Sharma, senior leader of the Mahasabha and founder of Nana Apte Dham, led the program. Havan and worship were performed in the ceremony and Hanuman Chalisa was recited. The purpose of the religious ceremony was to ‘eliminate’ Gandhism from all over the world.
Sharma demanded that the Central Government withdraw the title of Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Father of the Nation’. The Mahasabha also announced a plan to honor the families of Nathuram Godse and Narayan Nana Apte involved in the assassination of Gandhiji. The program concluded with the distribution of sweets among the supporters.
